Dr. Wilson Imongan

Wilson Imongan, medical practitioner, graduated with MBBS from the University of Ibadan and had additional training in Dermatology from the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK where he obtained a post graduate diploma in Dermatological Sciences. He has several years working experience as Medical Officer in charge of the Dermatology & Sexually Transmitted Clinics of the State Central Hospital; thereafter, he was appointed Assistant Director of Primary Health Care / Reproductive Health Coordinator in the Edo State Ministry of Health with direct supervisory responsibility for the 18 Local Governments of the State.  He was also the state coordinator of NGO activities in the State MoH. In 2007, he was subsequently appointed the Honourable Commissioner for Health in Edo State, a position he held between July 2007 and November 2008.

Between 2005 and 2007, he ran HIV/AIDS and STI VCT services for sex workers in collaboration with an Italy-based NGO named PIAM ON LUS with support from  Amedo Savoa Hospital for infectious diseases (STI unit) in Turin. Wilson has been involved in the prevention, care, and management of HIV/AIDS, as well as training health workers on HIV/AIDS. He is trained and, has experience in development of media materials on Reproductive health. He has attended several UNFPA, UNIFEM USAID and FMoH organized workshops on gender, STI/HIV/AIDS, M & E, Family Planning and contraceptives logistic management in primary health care. He received certificate of participation in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Advocacy Training from Champions for Change (C4C), Public Health Institute, California USA. {November 2014 – October 2015.} Dr. Wilson Imongan produced & presented weekly Public Health radio and television programs from 1997 to 2005 and on adolescent reproductive health in 2014.

He’s currently the Vice Chairman of the National Advocacy Committee of the Christian Health Association of Nigeria.

Wilson served as an Associate of WHARC for many years and later as Deputy Executive Director, Maternal Health at the Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC), Benin City. He is currently the Executive Director
