Advocacy Visit to the Adamawa State Ministry of Health and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp by the Women’s Health Action and Research Centre

The Executive Director (ED), Dr Wilson Imongan, facilitator, Dr Victor Ohenhen and WHARC Program officers (Dr Omo-Omorodion Blessing and Mr Brian Igboin) paid an advocacy visit to the Adamawa State Ministry of Health on the 18th of October, 2018. The team visited the office of the Director of Research and Planning, Dr Augustine Barimi. He expressed his joy and promised that Adamawa State will be supportive to the implementation of the research activities by WHARC in the state.

The team further visited the office of the Commissioner of Health, Dr Fatima Atiku Abubakar who was very delighted in receiving the team. According to her, she had looked forward to receiving the research team of WHARC as she had heard so much from Dr Danladi Idrisa, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) focal contact to WHARC about the organization in terms of implementing good research and adding values to lives. Dr Wilson Imongan spoke on the reason for the visit that WHARC is partnering with UNFPA to provide access to sexual and reproductive health information and services through mobile health services in IDPs camps and host communities including hard-to –reach communities in Adamawa State. He also stated health care providers from communities affected with insurgency capacity will be trained on Emergency Obstetric Care and Antenatal Care so as to provide services to women and girls in areas affected by insurgency. The ED also informed her that two safe space for women and girls will built by WHARC in the state of  and this safe spaces will house women and girls on cases of gender based violence, skill acquisition, and mentoring services which will be located in an IDP camps.

The commissioner stated that the major challenge that the ministry has is the issue of proper research and documentation and that she is glad WHARC is an organization that is involved in research and documentation and promise to provide every assistance needed to implement the project in the selected communities. She also stated that for the safe space, a community is Girei local government will be feasible and safe because Girei house quite a large number of displace people and host community.

 

 

She later paid a visit to the training workshop site (Eaglespath Hotel and Suites) and encouraged the participants to give in their best in helping their communities and hoped that the insurgency will come to an end in the nearest future.
