
The August edition of the monthly health talk for couples on pregnancy and delivery care was held recently at the Antenatal hall, Central hospital Benin City. It was focused on creating awareness on intrapatum contraceptives, common ailment associated with pregnancy and to provide answers to frequently asked question for pregnancy care.
The first lecture was given by Dr. Agbon Ojiemen he taught on “intrapatum contraceptives” he stated that there are many affordable birth control options that do no not contain hormones if used correctly, these barrier methods include the condom, sponge, cervical cap diaphragm, spermicide the copper IUD. He concluded by encouraging the couples to use non-hormonal methods because it is the best method after delivery that does not reduce efficacy of breast milk.
On common ailment associated with pregnancy, Dr. Omonzuwa E. Head of Department, O&G Stella Obasanjo hospital listed some ailments to be; early morning sickness, constipation, backache, frequency of micturition, heartburn, ptyalism, pica, varicosity, fainting, skin changes, carpal tunnel syndrome and cramps, he went further to highlight possible solutions in managing the ailments. He concluded by saying that men should give their wives adequate care and support during pregnancy.
The Head of Department, O&G Central Hospital Benin, Dr. Victor Ohenhen acknowledged the men and nurses for taking their time to support the women, thereby adding value to the health talk activity, and he also applauded the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Women’s Health Action Research Centre (WHARC) on their continued collaboration with Central Hospital Benin.
